Taste of Downtown Sylva runs the table in its first year

SYLVA-Saturday’s first annual “Taste of Downtown Sylva” walking culinary tour was a big success, selling out in advance and bringing exposure to the 11 businesses on the tour.

Establishments on Mill, Main, and Spring streets offered samples of their culinary delights to over 200 ticket holders. The event was sponsored by the Downtown Sylva Association and served as a fundraiser for the organization.

“It was a wonderful event,” said Lisa Wood, owner of Spring Street Cafe. “There were folks from Waynesville to Bryson City enjoying themselves, and it was great meeting new customers and catching up with regulars”.

“The community support and enthusiasm for this first-ever event was wonderful,” said Julie Sylvester, Director of the DSA.

Sylva has developed a regional reputation for dining, and its restaurants and cafes have been written up in many regional and national magazines. The three-block area of the tour is home to a brewery, a coffee roastery, a full-service bakery, a fresh fish market and  number of cafes and restaurants.
